Monte Vista
Located in the hills surrounding Medford, this modern home is sited to capitalize on its expansive views of the Rogue Valley. A multi-story sanctuary surrounds the house, providing areas of quiet respite enriched by native plants blended with the ambient sounds of nature and water. The elegant garden terraces blend seamlessly as you move from the play lawn above to the raised garden below.
Continuing the material choices of the house with the built landscape is displayed in a decidedly modern aesthetic that blends board-form concrete with corten steel supports and juniper timbers. At the entry, the board-form of the house foundation pierces into the landscape melding a custom fabricated vehicle gate. As visitors continue up the drive, they are flanked by an allée of Oklahoma Redbuds that lead them to a parking court surrounded by vine-covered concrete walls. At the entry of the house, an elegant water feature greets all who arrive.
Entry into the back occurs from the lower patio. Guests are presented with three terraces of edible gardens, whose structure is made of corten structural beams holding juniper timbers, sized to match the concrete's imprinted boards. After ascending monolithic stone slab steps, a small crushed rock patio provides an area of quiet respite before continuing to play lawn. Neighbors above are screened by a tight hedge of Portugal Laurel and views of the valley from Mount Ashland to Table Rock are present at each elevation.
